Aglaonima simplex
Aglaonema simplex is a semi-aquatic or riparian plant species from the family Araceae, native to Southeast Asia, particularly Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia. It is typically found in shaded, humid forest understories and along stream banks, where it thrives in moist, well-drained soils. The plant features lanceolate to elliptic leaves, usually dark green, with a smooth, leathery texture, and it can reach heights of 30–60 cm in its natural habitat. In aquarium settings, it is best suited for emersed growth in paludariums, ripariums, or as a marginal plant in open-top tanks, since it does not tolerate fully submersed conditions for extended periods. When kept in high humidity and low to medium light, it grows steadily with a slow to moderate growth rate, making it relatively easy to maintain. It prefers temperatures between 22–28°C (72–82°F) and should be planted in nutrient-rich substrate with regular root feeding. Though not commonly used in traditional aquascaping due to its terrestrial nature, Aglaonema simplex adds lush, tropical foliage to vivariums and terrarium-style layouts. CO₂ supplementation is not essential, but it may slightly enhance growth in emersed environments.
